Privacy & your child’s data

Mira 11+ is built for children, so it is built to the UK Children’s Code (Age Appropriate Design Code) and UK GDPR. The short version: we collect the least we can, and nothing about a child that could identify them.

What we store about a child

A nickname you choose (not a legal name), a school year group, and a flag recording whether the child is under 13. That is all.

We do not store a child's date of birth, full name, school, address, photograph, or any contact details. A child never has a login or an email address with us — the account belongs to the adult.

Alongside that we keep learning data: which topics have been practised, how many questions were answered correctly, which items are due for review, and a difficulty level. It is used to teach your child and to show you their progress.

What we store about you

Your email address and password are held by AWS Cognito, our authentication provider. Your email is not copied into our own database; when a weekly note needs sending, it is looked up at that moment and not stored.

If you take the free diagnostic without an account, we store the email address you enter, the year group you selected and the score, so we can send you the report you asked for.

Email we send

Weekly progress briefings and goal reminders about your own child, sent because of settings you configured. You control these from your dashboard.

If you took the free diagnostic, a short series of follow-up emails about 11-plus preparation. Every one of those carries a one-click unsubscribe link that needs no login and takes effect immediately.

We never sell, rent or share your address, and we never send mail to a child.

The leaderboard

Taking part is optional and off by default. A child who joins appears only as a randomly generated animal nickname and an avatar — never their real nickname, never their year group, never anything identifying. The pseudonym changes every week so it cannot be followed over time.

There is no messaging, no friend list, no profile and no photograph anywhere in the product. School leaderboards show school and class totals only, and a school with fewer than five pupils is not listed at all.

Your rights

You can see, correct, export or delete your family's data at any time. Deleting a child profile removes their learning data with it.

To unsubscribe from email, use the link in any message. To request deletion or a copy of your data, email us and we will action it.

Where data lives

All data is stored in AWS in Ireland (eu-west-1), inside the EU/UK data-protection regime. We deliberately did not choose a US region for children's data.

Question content is generated by our own engine; the AI tutor is provided by Anthropic and is sent the question and the conversation, never your child's name or your contact details.
